The Red River Gorge is home to a variety of birds. Come explore at the Gladie Visitor Center to learn more!
Enjoy a guided 90 minutes birding adventure with Joy Hopkins from Lighthouse Guiding and Seven Hills Farm.
The pocket of land surrounding Gladie Visitor Center contains a wonderful variety of habitat for birds. Forest, field, stream, and brushy cover of undergrowth invite a great number of species to call this their home. The Red River welcomes waterfowl, herons, and even the occasional bald eagle. The gruff call of ravens can be heard as they peruse the cliffs towering overhead.
On a guided birding walk, participants may observe both familiar backyard birds as well as lesser-known beauties and seasonal migrants who stop in for a respite. By pausing and intentionally looking and listening for these creatures, we can increase our awareness of the wonders of life that are around us.
Birders will learn tips for observation as well as techniques for identification, including ways to recognize birdsong, note behaviors, flight pattern and even address forms of tracking. Many beginner birders are surprised by the excitement and suspense this activity offers!
A birding checklist will be provided by guide.
Open to ages 10 and up. Pre-registration required ~ Email Education Director, Matt Christian – matt@gofindoutdoors.org
