Saturday, September 24th is National Public Lands Day and we are celebrating at the Gladie visitor center! There will be a full day of festivities including crafts and activities in the morning then a cleanup hike during the afternoon. Activities and crafts will be centered around teaching families the importance of being stewards of the land on all our adventures. There will be a Leave No Trace scavenger hunt, an introduction to Woodsy Owl, a binocular craft, and Red River Gorge coloring pages. Afterwards at 1 pm we will be taking a hike on the Bison Way trail and up Gladie Creek to pick up trash, learn the 7 principles of Leave No Trace, and discuss the ecosystem services Red River Gorge provides. For the hike please bring water, sunscreen, shoes you are comfortable walking in and getting wet, and gloves if you have them; we will provide bags, grabbers, buckets, trash bags, and gloves if necessary. Participation on the hike is limited to 10 to ensure safety so please register at https://tinyurl.com/NPLDCleanup.
