The Blue Ghost firefly (Phausis reticulata) is mysterious and fascinating creature here in the Appalachian Mountains. Their unusual name comes from the singular, long-lasting, flash of the males. Each flash can remain illuminated for up to one minute at a time. Males look like typical, winged beetles, however the female blue ghosts do not grow wings and resemble larvae, even as adults.
They can only be seen for a short period of time each year, and we beautiful evening tours of this magical event.
Unfortunately, tours were cancelled for this year, so to commemorate this event we are offering these beautiful 11×17 posters. All proceeds from the sale of this item will go directly to support the Cradle of Forestry Site in Pisgah National Forest.
