Spending time outdoors is fun, but it can be even more fun when you include food. This lesson includes up to date information with some activities, recipes, and techniques about how to safely prepare meals in the great outdoors with your family!
This lesson will cover steps for food safety and fire safety when cooking outdoors. Participants will explore various categories of outdoor meals such as picnics, front country camping (at established campsites), and backcountry camping (more remote, undeveloped campsites) along with recipes appropriate for each. Two hands-on activities will allow participants to learn about fire safety: Edible Campfire Activity and Making Firestarters activity. If weather permits, participants will practice cooking a recipe outside.
