That is why we offer tours and educational opportunities to all ages, abilities, and incomes — encouraging active, healthy lifestyles, while making meaningful connections with our public lands.

Woodsy Owl’s Curiosity Club

Woodsy Owl’s Curiosity Club is a weekly educational program designed for children ages 4 to 7 to explore nature with their trusted adult and Cradle naturalist. Programs are 1.5 hours long and begin with the reading of a forest-themed story and include fun activities, games and a craft.

During this unique and exciting outdoor performance, audiences will travel back in time to the year 1901 and hear yarns about the legendary Tommy Hodges, a student of the Biltmore Forest School who went missing one autumn night.

The Great Wagon Road Game

Play an interactive WNC version of the Oregon Trail game with the whole family! The Cradle of Forestry has brought the game to life along our Biltmore Campus Trail (1 mile).

Foxfire Night Hikes

Participants will be lead on an after hours guided hike up to Anna Ruby Falls. After the sun sets, the forest will be lit up by beautiful fireflies and the amazing bioluminescent phenomenon that is Foxfire.

Blue Ghost Photo Tours

Photography lovers will enjoy this curated, semi-guided experience allowing both amateur and experienced photographers the opportunity to practice and perform long exposure photography of Blue Ghost Fireflies at a comfortable pace along the Cradle of Forestry’s paved trails.

Blue Ghost Firefly Tour

The Blue Ghost Firefly (Phausis reticulata) is a secretive, hard-to-find native insect that calls our area home, and for a very short amount of time in early summer, they inhabit our surrounding woodlands of Transylvania County.

BearWise Workshop

Want to learn how to co-exist safely with bears? Want to know more about black bears in North Carolina? Staff with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission will discuss the natural history of black bears in western North Carolina and how you can use that information to safely coexist with these North Carolina treasures.
