Plan Overnight Stays Near Georgia’s highest Point
Brasstown Bald Visitor Center & Recreation Area is a day-use destination and does not offer overnight camping or lodging within the visitor or summit areas. Visitors who want to spend more time in the North Georgia mountains can choose from nearby state park cottages, public campgrounds, lakeside RV sites, rental cabins, hotels, and vacation rentals.
Each destination is managed separately from Brasstown Bald and FIND Outdoors. These camping and lodging locations have their own reservations, fees, check-in procedures, operating information, and visitor policies. Admission to Brasstown Bald does not include camping, lodging, parking, or recreation fees at any of the locations listed below. Review current information directly with each provider before traveling.
Stay at Vogel State Park
Vogel State Park near Blairsville offers one of the widest selections of public overnight accommodations in the area. Depending on availability, visitors may choose from cottages, tent campsites, trailer and RV sites, walk-in campsites, and other group or backcountry options.
Located at the base of Blood Mountain within the Chattahoochee National Forest, Vogel can serve as a convenient home base for visitors who want to combine Brasstown Bald with additional hiking, picnicking, and outdoor recreation.
Vogel State Park and Brasstown Bald are separate destinations. A reservation at Vogel does not include admission to Brasstown Bald, and Brasstown Bald admission does not cover Vogel camping, lodging, parking, or recreation fees. Review the park’s current alerts, reservation information, pet policies, and check-in procedures before traveling.
Camp Beside Lake Chatuge
The Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds Campground in Hiawassee offers more than 200 camping and RV sites near the shoreline of Lake Chatuge. This option may be especially useful for visitors traveling with an RV or looking for a more developed campground near town.
Sites may include water and electrical service, and many paved sites also provide sewer connections. Campground guests may also have access to amenities such as a boat ramp, playground, picnic areas, paved courts, and the Hamilton Rhododendron Gardens.
Reservations are handled directly through the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. Minimum stays, availability, campground rules, and access during major events may vary, so review current information before making plans.
Camp or Stay in a Cabin at Lake Winfield Scott
Operated by FIND Outdoors, Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area offers a more traditional national forest setting south of Blairsville. The recreation area includes campsites for tents and RVs, along with a two-story rental cabin for visitors who prefer an indoor stay.
The campground includes picnic tables, grills, toilets, showers, and a limited number of sites with water and electrical connections. Visitors can also enjoy lake access, short trails, and connections to longer routes leading toward the Appalachian Trail.
Lake Winfield Scott is operated separately from Brasstown Bald. Campsite and cabin availability, fees, equipment limits, pet policies, and operating conditions may vary. Review the current FIND Outdoors and Recreation.gov information for your selected site before traveling.
Find Lodging in Hiawassee and Blairsville
Visitors who prefer a hotel, resort, cabin, vacation rental, bed-and-breakfast, or other indoor accommodation can explore options in Hiawassee, Blairsville, Young Harris, and surrounding communities.
Hiawassee offers lodging near Lake Chatuge, while Blairsville provides convenient access to restaurants, stores, Vogel State Park, and other destinations throughout Union County. Travel times may feel longer than the mileage suggests because roads near Brasstown Bald are steep and winding.

Plan Ahead for an Overnight Visit
Because each overnight destination is managed separately from Brasstown Bald, visitors should expect separate reservations, fees, arrival instructions, and operating policies.
Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during weekends, holidays, fall color season, and major area events. Before arriving, review check-in times, gate hours, vehicle limits, pet policies, campground rules, weather conditions, and any current road or facility alerts.
Cell service may be limited throughout the surrounding mountains. Save directions and reservation information before traveling, carry necessary food and water, and allow extra time for winding mountain roads.
Black bears and other wildlife live throughout the North Georgia mountains. Store food, coolers, trash, toiletries, and other scented items according to the rules of the campground or property where you are staying. Never feed wildlife or leave food unattended, and dispose of trash only in approved containers. Please follow Leave No Trace principles and help protect the surrounding forest.
