Plan Ahead for Your Visit
Carolina Hemlocks Campground & Recreation Area offers overnight camping, day-use recreation, and a reservable picnic pavilion along the South Toe River.
Operated by FIND Outdoors, an outdoor recreation nonprofit, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, Carolina Hemlocks is supported in part by visitor admission revenue. These funds help maintain the site and recreation, support educational programs and visitor services, and provide the outdoor experiences that make Carolina Hemlocks a special place to explore within the Pisgah National Forest.
Camping reservations are managed through Recreation.gov and cannot be made, changed, or canceled by calling or emailing the FIND Outdoors office. Visitors planning an overnight stay are encouraged to reserve their campsite before traveling.
Campsite Reservations
Carolina Hemlocks offers standard campsites for tent and RV camping.
Reservations can be made online through Recreation.gov or by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service at 877.444.6777.
When reserving, review the individual campsite information carefully. Campsites may vary in size, parking space, equipment limits, river access, and other features. Your Recreation.gov reservation will provide the most current availability and site-specific information for your stay.

Camping Fees

Standard Campsite: $28 per night
Qualifying Senior/Access Pass Rate: $14 per night
Federal Interagency Senior and Access discounts apply to a single standard campsite when the eligible passholder is present. Discounts do not apply to additional items or services.
Visitors using a qualifying pass should bring the physical pass and be prepared to present it during their stay.
Day Use
Visitors do not need to camp overnight to enjoy Carolina Hemlocks. Day-use access is available for activities such as swimming, fishing, tubing, picnicking, and spending time along the South Toe River.
Day-Use Fee: $5 per vehicle
Day-Use Interagency & Senior Pass: $2.50 per vehicle
Day-use visitors must follow all posted rules for parking, hours, river safety, and recreation areas.
Season Passes
Carolina Hemlocks offers a season pass for day-use access for visitors who plan to return throughout the operating season.
Season Pass: $25
This pass covers day-use entry to the recreation area and does not include camping fees or overnight campsite reservations.
Season passes can be purchased through FIND Outdoors. Visitors should review current pass information and eligibility before purchasing.
Large Picnic Pavilion
A large picnic pavilion is available for groups planning a gathering, picnic, or other permitted day-use activity.
Large Picnic Pavilion: $70
The pavilion is reservable, and availability may vary by date. Visitors planning a group gathering should reserve in advance and review the current reservation details, capacity, parking, and site rules associated with the pavilion before arriving.
Changes, Cancellations & Refunds
Camping and pavilion reservations made through Recreation.gov are subject to Recreation.gov reservation, cancellation, and refund policies.
Service fees may apply when making, changing, or canceling a reservation. Refund eligibility can also depend on how far in advance a reservation is canceled.
If your plans change, make adjustments through Recreation.gov as early as possible. FIND Outdoors staff cannot change or cancel Recreation.gov reservations on behalf of visitors.
