Event Details

FIND Outdoors is partnering with Atlanta Astronomy Club at Carters Lake to discover the hidden mysteries of Georgia’s darkest sky. Expert astronomers will guide participants through the night, interpreting the wonders of the universe through their galactic stories and expertise. You will also be given the opportunity to use high powered telescopes to explore our universe even further. Come spend an evening learning about the magic of deep space and North Georgia’s incredible nightscape!

Plan Your Visit

Getting There: Use the address to route directly to the event’s location at the Astronomy Field/Northbank Park: 1850 Carters Dam Rd, Chatsworth, Georgia 30705. You’ll pass over the dam’s bridge and will see the sign for Northbank Park.

Parking & Fees:  Once entered, you’ll park anywhere along the left side of the parking circle. The astronomy field will be to your right; as we would like to limit as much light pollution as possible, please ensure your vehicle is not facing the astronomy field. As this is a ticketed event, you do not need to pay any extra day use fees at this site! Once parked, walk to the Astronomy Field sign, which opens up to the stunning lakeview field where the event will take place. Be sure to bring chairs, blankets, and something warm to drink!

Format & Participation:  This event begins with an introduction from our partners at the Atlanta Astronomy Club, who will brief guests on the wonders of the night sky. Guests will then be invited to look through telescopes calibrated to specific points of interest and activity up above. This will be a great time to ask questions about constellations, the position of certain planets, and anything you would like to know about the world above us!

On-site location: The Astronomy Field at Northbank Park offers several picnic areas, pavilions, restrooms, and trash receptacles, as well as a playground area. Should you arrive early, feel free to enjoy these amenities until the program begins!
