Event Details

Join us at the Woodring Campground on Wednesday, July 22nd for an evening dedicated to the moths of North Georgia, some of the most important (and overlooked) creatures in our forests. Families can wander between three short‑walk observation stations, each glowing with light setups that attract a host of our nighttime flying friends. Along the way, enjoy hands‑on activities and kid‑friendly games that introduce moth ecology, their role as pollinators, and the surprising diversity fluttering through the night! Whether you’re a seasoned camper, a nature‑loving family, or a first‑time visitor, this relaxed nighttime program offers a chance to slow down, look closely, and discover just how alive the forest becomes after dark. Bring your curiosity — the moths will bring the magic!

Plan Your Visit

Getting there: Follow signs for Woodring Campground, and be sure to turn right at the sign pointing you to Developed Camping and other amenities. From there, you’ll drive through the gatehouse, and continue through the campground. You’ll pass over a small bridge and shortly afterwards will arrive right at the event! Landmarks of note include a playground/open parking area, with restrooms and extra parking available, but the event is within walking distance of any of the developed campsites. You’ll see our moth backdrops, activity table, and the educator ready to greet you!

Parking: Day use entrance fee applies; visitors who are already camping may walk to this event (primitive camping participants may want to drive the few minutes to this event).

Format & Participation: As this is a nighttime event, visitors are encouraged to arrive between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM. Visitors can self-guide along the provided moth observation stations and pick up provided activity sheets before beginning. The event will end around 10:00 PM.
