Moth Night at the Cradle of Forestry

Event Details

Join us for an evening celebrating the hidden world of moths! Attendees will observe a variety of fascinating moth species found in Western North Carolina up close at two viewing stations with staff and volunteers helping to ID.  Learn about these lesser known pollinators and their important role in our ecosystem. This relaxed, family-friendly event offers a unique way to experience nature at night.

Moth themed props will be available for your own moth photo booth!  There will also be moth temporary tattoos and a moth antennae craft before the viewing begins.

Plan Your Visit

Parking: Parking is available at the Cradle of Forestry near the Discovery Center.

Format & Participation: As this is a nighttime event, visitors are encouraged to arrive between 8:00 PM and 8:30 PM. Visitors can self-guide along the provided moth observation stations and pick up ID sheets of common moth species in the area before beginning. The event will end around 10:00 PM.

Schedule:
8:00 PM: Gates Open
8:00 PM – 8:45 PM: Participate in our moth craft, moth photo booth and learn about moth’s role in our ecosystem
 8:45 PM: Intro to program
 9:00 – 10:00 PM: Moth viewing

On-Site Location: This event will begin inside the Discovery Center and moth viewing stations will be set up at the school house and the amphitheater.

Fee Structure: Free event! No registration required.
