Native Roots - Woodring Campground

Event Details

The Blue Ridge Mountains are home to an incredible palette of colorful flowers, lush shrubs, and so much in between. Join the FIND Educator at the Oak Ridge Nature Trail within the Woodring Campground to investigate the native (and non-native) plants blooming during the summer! You may also find a host of mushrooms cropping up around the trail! Native plant field guides will be available for visitors to use during the walk.

Plan Your Visit

Getting there: Go to the Woodring Branch Campground, and follow signs for the Developed Campground. Instead of taking a right inside the campground entrance, continue straight through to the fee booth located in the small parking lot. You’ll see the Oak Ridge Nature Trail entrance sign. 

Parking & Fees: For non-campers, park in this parking lot! Campers may walk to this trail, or otherwise use the same parking lot. 

Format & Participation: This interpretive walk ‘n’ talk is for those looking to explore some of the walking trails at Carters Lake, and visitors will be joined by our educator during each walk. Don’t see us at the trail’s entrance? This means that our educator is currently walking with visitors, so feel free to start the trail and catch up at your leisure. You’ll be able to find us along the way! The first walk will begin at 11:00 AM, with the last walk beginning by 12:30 PM. Each walk takes about 45 minutes-1 hour, depending on how many stops we make! 

On-site location: The Oak Ridge Nature Trail is located just outside of the entrance to Developed Camping at Woodring Branch.

Fee structure: This is a free event for Woodring campers! For visitors not camping with us already, day use fee booths are located at the parking lot of this trail.
