Our native snakes have developed some impressive adaptations for surviving in the Appalachian Mountains! From the venomous Timber Rattlesnake to the non-venomous Eastern Rat Snake, all of our local Serpentes share the element of biodiversity, having adapted and diversified to the state’s 5 topographic regions. In fact, Georgia is home to over 45 native snakes! Don’t worry; only 6 of them are venomous, yet all are unique. Come learn why some have green-tipped tails when young, while others are only venomous to amphibians. You’ll even get to meet a few!

Plan Your Visit 

Getting there: Follow signs for Woodring Branch Campground. You can use this address to route to the campground: 5026 Woodring Branch Rd., Chatsworth GA, 30705. Be sure to turn right at the sign pointing you to Developed Camping and other amenities. From there, you’ll drive through the gatehouse and continue through the campground. You’ll pass over a small bridge and shortly afterwards will arrive right at the event! Landmarks of note include a pround/open parking area, with restrooms and extra parking available, but the event is within walking distance of any of the developed campsites. You’ll see our educator ready to greet you!

Parking & Fees: Day use entrance fee applies; visitors who are already camping may walk to this event (primitive camping participants should drive the few minutes to this event to avoid walking on the campground road at night). 

Format & Participation: This event is between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, feel free to drop by at anytime! 

On-site location: This event takes place near the playground area within the campground. You’ll see lit backdrops, an activity table, and the educator at this location!
